Some people would say that being successful is life’s ultimate ambition. It is widely believed that success leads to happiness and fulfillment. According to a recent article in Inc., if you want to be happy and successful, there are specific things you need to work on. See below for a summary.

View failure as an opportunity.

Just about every successful entrepreneur has failed. But failure can be great, because it can be an opportunity to learn. If you fail, don’t let the failure just sit there as a disappointment. Let it do something. Give it purpose and momentum. Let it help you improve, learn and grow.

Work with meaning.

If you work for more than just money, chances are you will be more motivated, driven and committed to succeed. True meaning offers clarity, which is crucial when you need to press on in the face of adversity.

Work smarter.

This one seems pretty obvious, but it doesn’t just refer to intelligence. It has to do with doing what it takes, no matter how challenging, ridiculous or obscure. All successful people — from athletes to entrepreneurs — put in a lot of hours to refine and perfect their skills. But time alone often does not create success. Thoughtfulness, perseverance, persistence and open-mindedness also need to be present to achieve your goals.

Value every moment.

Wasting time is one of the best ways to derail success. All successful entrepreneurs pay close attention to their time and prioritise their activities and tasks to make sure they are only investing time in things that will help them accomplish their goals.

Find balance.

Although total dedication is a common trait among successful people, taking time to rejuvenate and refresh is also key to success. You can’t work and focus on the same ultimate goal every minute of every day. You need outlets for release, opportunities to gain perspective, and time to relax. If you don’t, you’ll burn out and risk losing your focus and drive.
