We’re proud of our students. They come from all walks of life and achieve in their studies while balancing multiple commitments. See below what some of our current students think about studying online with CUC and balancing a work/study life.

Debbie Baker – Paralegal

Debbie

Debbie is a single mother with a 7 year old son. She is a phenomenal student who manages to balance family commitments and her studies, as well as running a small legal firm based in Somerset. She previously worked for Natwest Bank for 18 years and decided to study online with Coventry University College (CUC) in order to cement the skills and experience she has gained over the last few years while managing her own business.

We asked Debbie a few questions about the course to see how she was progressing and what motivated her to start.

Why did you choose the BA Management and Leadership course?

I have managed and lead a team for many years and I want to bring in fresh ideas and learn to be more productive, both in myself and with the team.

Why did you choose CUC online?

It fitted in with my full-time work as a mother and Paralegal. I could base University reading and work around my already busy lifestyle and make the commitment to ensuring I succeeded.

How did you find the application and recruitment process?

Cath (a CUC Online Student Support Advisor) was extremely understanding, honest with her answers and helped me through the process.

How are you finding the course?

Very challenging but well worth the hard work and effort. Butterflies still apparent when waiting for results!

What advice would you give to anybody considering studying online?

Don’t delay! Hard work and aspirations come to fruition. Make it work, believe in yourself and talk any concerns or doubts through. There is support there to help so use it.

What will having the qualification do for you?

Long term, I want to teach and give my experience to others wanting to be successful. Short term, I want to cement my prior learning and experience and learn even more!

Holly Clarke – Sales Office Supervisor

Holly

Holly is 23 years old and working full time in London. She initially decided against going to university and obtaining a degree because she couldn’t find the course for her. After completing her A-Levels, she decided to move to London and began working as Sales Support, where she currently works for a supplier in the hospitality sector. Her success and drive in this role resulted in her being promoted year on year, from Sales Support to Account Manager and currently Sales Office Supervisor where she oversees a team of Account Managers.

Holly started studying with us in September 2015 and the commitment that has propelled her through her working life shines through in her studies as well. We asked Holly a few questions about the course to see how she was progressing and what motivated her to start.

Why did you choose the BA in Management and Professional Accounting course?

Having gained some experience in a formal working environment, I would like to be able to consider the role of Chief Financial Officer as a potential future position and to do such, I will need a relevant degree. Maths has always been an interest of mine and has remained a strong subject throughout my education, as has managing money whether my own or within businesses; it’s interesting to see how finance management has an effect on the business. My father studied as an accountant and then later in his career went into business turnaround which I found very interesting. The course is appropriate for my career goals and gives me knowledge that is applicable to many working scenarios.

Why did you choose CUC online?

It allowed me to continue working full time and study flexibly. It ensured that I could still be considered for promotions within my current role whilst also developing many skills.

How did you find the application and recruitment process?

Very quick and easy, everyone was very friendly.

How are you finding the course?

So far, I find it very interesting, there is a lot of content within each module to ensure you feel as though you are genuinely learning and gaining from the course. I am also lucky enough to have an accountant at my workplace that would always offer help and advice if required. I am keen to continue personal development in all aspects of my life and this degree is a great learning challenge to do alongside full-time work.

What advice would you give to anybody considering studying online?

It is hard work, make sure you have the time to spare. Fortunately, my workplace offers me one day off a week during term time which makes things much easier!

What will having the qualification do for you?

It will open up more job opportunities and at a higher level.

Colin Doran – Construction Supervisor

20160713_122738

Colin is 48 years old and is working full time as a supervisor in the construction industry. At work, Colin runs a transport office and conducts construction site surveys. After an online advertisement for Coventry University College (CUC) online courses sparked Colin’s interest, he looked further into the possibility of studying online.

We asked Colin a few questions about the course to see how he was progressing and what motivated him to start.

Why did you choose BA Management and Leadership course?

After investigating the programmes, I felt the Management and Leadership course would enable me to gain a qualification to support my work experience and improve my career progression.

Why did you choose CUC online?

The advert appeared from CUC and it sparked my interest. I thought it might be a good chance to improve my career progression. I gave the recruitment team a call for more information and didn’t look back!

How did you find the application and recruitment process?

I haven’t been in education for over 30 years so it was great to have somebody to talk to at the end of the phone that could answer all my questions and allay all of my concerns. It was extremely helpful to have the same person each time I needed to ask any questions.

How are you finding the course?

As I stated previously I have not been in education for over 30 years so I am finding the course challenging but very interesting and enjoyable. I have found the challenge to be more around academic practices such as knowing how to research and reference. My peers and tutor haves been great in providing help and advice in this area.

What advice would you give to anybody considering studying online?

Go for it! I am really enjoying the course. I would recommend making sure that you have the time to devote to the course – I have set myself an office up in my back bedroom and allocated myself dedicated studying times over the week. If, like me, you have not been in education for many years I would also recommend reading up on research and referencing before you start.

What will having the qualification do for you?

Allow me to get a better job.
